Kumar at Conference Hall, UT Secretariat, Sector-9. Dr. R. Kumar claimed it to be the first book on Medical Tourism in the country.
Giving information regarding the book, Dr. R. Kumar said the book includes promoting Medical Tourism and Healthcare facilities in India. He told that Chandigarh is a vibrant city with upcoming world class projects like IT Park, Film City, Education City, International Airport and Medicity. Dr. Kumar revealed that Chandigarh is the appropriate place for setting up of MediCity as it has world class infrastructure and a good accessibility from different parts of the world. Dr. Kumar said that there is a need of massive investment in Medical Tourism as there is shortage of comprehensive affordable healthcare facilities. Public Private Partnership should be promoted, he added. The book's mainly focuses on the management and Promotion of Medical Tourism in India. The book highlights the various fields in the sector of Healthcare where India's excellence is world known, may it be Surgery or Cosmetic or Natural Therapy or Ayurveda, and to promote it. Dr. Kumar further revealed that the Hospitals of Chandigarh cater to 600 lacs of people. He also said in a survey conducted by CII in 2003 it was found that the revenue generated from Medical Tourism is one third of a billion dollar while in case of Information Technology the revenue generation is $ 60 billion. Thus there is dire need for exploring this area and to comprehend the potential of Medical Tourism in India.
